Case Study: Value-Engineering the Structure of a Warehouse Without Compromising Safety

Illustrative case study based on a typical engagement. Client details are withheld and figures are indicative. Replace this article with your own project when ready.

The brief

An owner planning a single-storey warehouse had received a structural design that appeared conservative. They asked for an independent review before tendering.

Our approach

  • Reviewed the design basis — loads, crane provisions, wind and seismic parameters — against the applicable Indian Standards.
  • Compared a conventional RCC frame with a pre-engineered steel option for the required clear spans.
  • Re-assessed foundation sizes using the soil investigation report rather than assumed values.
  • Checked constructability and erection sequence with our construction team.

Outcome

  • A recommended framing system with lower steel and concrete quantities, documented in a design review report.
  • Foundations resized to the measured soil capacity, with safety margins maintained.
  • Tender drawings and BOQ issued on the revised design.
